We have an induction programme which aims to make children’s transition into nursery as smooth and as personal as possible.

Induction for January and Easter starters

Parents/carers are invited into nursery for 2 Stay and Play sessions. Throughout these sessions parents will have the opportunity to look around the nursery, see how a typical session runs, and learn from the staff how we support play and learning within the nursery. Within the second session a meeting is held for parents to inform them about nursery policies/procedures and the daily routine

Induction for September starters

Parents/carers are invited to an induction meeting in June. They will then be invited to two Stay and Play sessions at the bebeginning of term in September. Throughout these sessions  parents will have the opportunity to look around the nursery both inside and out, see how a typical session runs and learn from the staff how we support play and learning within the nursery.

First visit 'alone'

The length of a child’s first session on their own is one hour, or shorter if a child is less confident.

This transition period is very important as starting nursery is a huge step for all children, even if they’re used to being left or have attended private nursery. It is unlikely that they will have attended anywhere as big, or exciting or demanding as nursery school before, and it is only natural that they may feel a little overwhelmed at first. We do our utmost to make this transition as easy as possible for both children and their parents – taking the initial steps gradually and carefully seems to work best. Regular attendance helps children to settle into the routine of coming to nursery and we encourage parents to make sure that unless their child is ill, that they bring them to every session.
